Il était une fois ... Hiranyakashipu le Roi des Démons ... Hiranyakashipu a une sœur prénommée Holîka qui était résistante aux flammes ( Personnellement je ne sais, ni comment, ni pourquoi, mais cela est assez important pour la suite de cette petite histoire...)

Hiranyakashipu souhaitait être perçu comme un grand homme, il fit alors pénitence et s'en alla flatter Brahma ... Dieu Créateur de l'hindouisme (membre de la Trimūrti avec Vishnou et Shiva).

Brahma touché par une telle dévotion accorda au Roi des démons un vœu ... C'est en ces termes qu'il le formula : "Je ne veux mourir ni de la main d'un homme, ni de l'attaque d'un animal, ni par une arme, ni sans arme ni de jour, ni de nuit,ni à l'intérieur, ni à l'extérieur, ni sur Terre, ni dans l'Air : garantis-moi la souveraineté sur le monde matériel." Brahma exauça ce vœu et fit ainsi don de la vie Éternelle au Roi des démons ...

Muni de ce don ...  Hiranyakashipu était alors devenu arrogant ... hautain et ... causait beaucoup de mal au ciel et sur la terre. Il allait jusqu'à interdire à son fils ... Prahlad de vénérer Vishnou ... Malgré cette interdiction ... son fils continuait à le vénérer ...Plus qu'agacé par un tel comportement ... Hiranyakashipu défia son propre fils de s'allonger dans le feu aux côtés de Holîka (la Déesse ignifugée ... ). Prahlad accepta tout en priant Vishnou de l'aider dans cette épreuve ...

Contre toute attente ... Holîka succomba et Prahlad survécut aux flammes ... Réalisant sa folie ... Holîka avant de s'éteindre implora le pardon de Prahlad qui le lui accorda.

Une fois encore ... le Bien vaincu le Mal ... depuis, chaque année, le sacrifice de Holîka est célébré lors de la pleine lune annonçant l'arrivée du printemps ... C'est Phâlgunotsava ... plus connue sous le nom de Holî ... la fête des couleurs ...

J'oubliais l'essentiel ... Phâlgunotsava c'est demain !
